Google Earth Map Files

Google Earth is a great program to help you map scout during the offseason. Here are some quick tutorials and files to help you get started.

First off I'd recommend you watch this video to get an idea of what you can do.Tutorial

The files are only available to GMUResearch subscribers. The annual $14.95 is money well spent, and gives you access to these files and much more.

Here are a few of the files we have available today.

Colorado Unit Boundaries. This is the basic unit overlay.

Colorado Elk Unit Info. This file looks at last years reported number of hunters per Elk season, then calcuates the density based on the unit size. The calculation assumes that 80% of the hunters will be concentrated in 20% of the unit area. In addition, this file gives you the percentage of Private Property, BLM, and USFS land per unit. All you need to do is click on the unit number.

Colorado Public Land Boundaries. This file contains the State Wildlife Area boundaries.

CO Summer Elk Concentrations. Where the elk hang out during the summer. But don't let this mislead you, as you can find elk anywhere west of I-25.

CO Elk Productions Areas. Where the Elk drop their calves in the June. Again, this is only a starting pointing point. Elk can move a long ways before hunting season.

CO Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Goat Unit boundaries.

CO Sheep Harvest locations for the last couple of years.

CO Mountain Goat Harvest Sites for 2010 and other years

CO Moose Harvest Sites for 2010 and other years
